LIBREVILLE, May 4 (Xinhua) -- Gabon's transitional Prime Minister Raymond Ndong Sima officially tendered his resignation on Sunday, one day after the swearing-in of newly elected President Brice Clotaire Oligui Nguema, according to a statement from the Gabonese presidency.
"The President of the Republic, Brice Clotaire Oligui Nguema, today received the resignation of Raymond Ndong Sima from his duties as prime minister," the statement announced.
"On this occasion, the head of state praised a man of experience and duty, whose contribution was essential to the success of the transition," it added, noting that the president expressed his gratitude for the commitment, loyalty, and strong sense of state demonstrated by Ndong Sima throughout his tenure.
According to the constitution approved by referendum in November 2024, members of the government are required to step down following the inauguration of the president-elect. ■
